Lead Software Engineer
- Full-Time
- Remote
Job Description:
About Arkan Homes
Arkan Homes is a growing residential development and home-building company based in Metro
Atlanta. We build and sell homes, and we run the development economics behind them — land
acquisition, construction financing, partnership structures, and portfolio-level cash planning.
We are building an internal software platform that connects our financial, operational,
construction, and client-facing workflows. We are looking for a Lead Software Engineer to take
ownership of that initiative and shape how technology supports the company as it grows.
About the Role
You will work directly with a Co-CEO (background in computer science) and other business
leaders to understand our operations, identify what's worth building, and turn business
requirements into working software.
This is a hands-on role. You will lead product discovery, system design, development,
deployment, and ongoing improvement. As our software needs and development team grow,
you will help hire and mentor additional developers.
How We Work With AI
We use AI-assisted development tools and agentic workflows daily, and we expect this role to
ship at a pace that would normally take a small team. Leadership is technical and prototypes
things directly, but production systems are designed, built, and owned by engineers.
We're looking for someone who is genuinely good at working this way — using these tools with
judgment, reviewing their output critically, and knowing where they help and where they don't. If
you consider AI tooling a distraction from real engineering, this isn't the right fit.
The First Project
The first major project is a cash-flow forecasting platform, and it will become the foundation of
the broader internal system. It is real modeling work: multi-year project timelines,
construction-loan draws and interest, land and development spend curves, per-lot economics,
partnership waterfalls and IRR, and consolidated company-level forecasting across an entire
portfolio of projects.
The model currently lives in a spreadsheet system we've outgrown. We have already written a
detailed requirements package for the replacement — business rules, data model, inputs,
outputs, validation rules, and acceptance fixtures. You won't be starting from a blank page or
guessing at the finance.
Later work may include company and departmental dashboards, workflow automation, tools that
surface unanswered client and vendor communications, and a client portal for home selections
and construction progress.
Responsibilities
- Work closely with company leadership and employees to understand business
processes, challenges, and requirements.
- Own software projects end to end — concept, design, development, deployment, and
ongoing improvement.
- Help leadership determine what should be built, what should not be built, and how
systems should be structured.
- Build the cash-flow forecasting platform, then the dashboards and departmental views
that sit on top of it.
- Build internal AI workflows and approval-based automations that connect email, Slack,
and other business systems — recommending or preparing updates while keeping
people in control of final decisions.
- Help build a client-facing portal for home selections and construction progress.
- Help recruit, onboard, and mentor additional developers as the team expands.
Qualifications
- Roughly 5+ years of professional software-development experience.
- A track record of taking a project from an unclear business problem to a working
production system — not just implementing tickets someone else wrote.
- Strong experience building and launching modern web applications.
- Comfortable across the stack: we lean TypeScript, React/Next.js, and Postgres, and
the existing financial engine is Python. We're open to a well-argued alternative, but you
should be strong in a mainstream JavaScript framework and fluent with relational data
modeling.
- Experience integrating applications with third-party services and APIs.
- Practical experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Codex,
or comparable platforms.
- Understanding of how AI can be incorporated into real business workflows.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
- Experience working directly with business owners, executives, or nontechnical
stakeholders.
- Startup, small-business, consulting, or freelance experience strongly preferred.
- Previous experience leading or mentoring developers preferred.
- A college degree is not required.
The Person We Are Looking For
- High agency: You take ownership, move work forward, and solve problems without
waiting for detailed instructions.
- Business sense: You understand that software has to produce practical business value,
not just demonstrate technical sophistication.
- Sound judgment: You can weigh competing priorities, challenge weak assumptions,
and make sensible decisions with incomplete information.
- Clear communication: You can explain complex ideas to nontechnical people and work
well with business leaders and employees.
- Adaptability: You're comfortable in a fast-changing environment and adjust as new
information arrives.
- Curiosity: You follow developments in web development, AI, and agentic workflows.
- Willingness to learn: You're prepared to learn the home-building business alongside
the technical work.
- Leadership potential: You can start as an individual contributor and grow into leading a
team.
What Success Looks Like
In the first six months:
- Month 1–2: You understand how Arkan plans and finances projects well enough to
challenge the requirements, not just implement them.
- Month 3: The cash-flow model runs in the application and reconciles to our existing
spreadsheet on live projects.
- Month 4–6: Leadership makes weekly capital and scheduling decisions from the
application rather than the spreadsheet, and the first departmental views are in daily
use.
- Throughout: You establish an organized, documented, sustainable approach to how
software gets built here — one a second and third engineer can join without friction.
Position Details
- Full-time employment, fully remote.
- Reports directly to a Co-CEO.
- Initially an individual-contributor role, with the opportunity to build and lead a
development team.
