Deema is a fast-growing fintech company and the first licensed Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) provider approved by the Central Bank of Kuwait. We build scalable digital payment and commerce solutions that empower merchants and customers across the region.

We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to design, develop, and scale backend systems and APIs that power our platform.

Role Overview

You will be responsible for building high-performance backend services, contributing to a microservices architecture, and ensuring system reliability, scalability, and security across Deema's core platform.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend applications using Laravel and PHP
• Build and optimize RESTful APIs and backend services
• Contribute to microservices architecture design and implementation
• Improve system performance, scalability, and reliability under high traffic
• Collaborate with frontend, mobile, and product teams to deliver end-to-end solutions
• Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
• Participate in code reviews and technical discussions
• Troubleshoot production issues and ensure system stability
• Contribute to architecture decisions and engineering best practices
• Mentor junior engineers and support team growth

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in backend engineering
• Strong experience with PHP and Laravel
• Solid understanding of software architecture and design patterns
• Experience with microservices and distributed systems
• Strong knowledge of REST APIs design and integration
• Experience with MySQL and database optimization
• Familiarity with queues, caching, and asynchronous processing
• Experience with Docker is a plus
• Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and Git workflows
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills

Working Conditions

• Location: Damascus
• Work Model: Hybrid (80% onsite / 20% remote)
• Working Days: Sunday – Thursday
